Selena Gomez is wanted for questioning in the Justin Bieber alleged assault case after a photographer accused the 18 year-old of attacking him while on a date with his actress girlfriend.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the matter as a misdemeanor battery following the incident at The Commons shopping centre in Calabasas on Sunday and want to talk to eye-witnesses including Selena Gomez.
Contrary to previous reports it has NOT been referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office for prosecution yet.
"The investigation is only just beginning,” Sergeant Michael Holland from the Malibu/Lost Hills station told RadarOnline.
“The only statement that has been given is from the alleged victim and other eyewitnesses, including Mr. Bieber's girlfriend, Selena Gomez, need to be interviewed.”
“At some point very soon, I anticipate that detectives will formally reach out to Justin Bieber for a request for an interview, although he isn't under any obligation to do so and neither is his girlfriend,” he added.
Eyewitnesses have so far claimed that the attack was provoked by the photographer who refused to let Justin and Selena leave in their car.
"Justin's car was being blocked in by Jose and he had to get out of his vehicle to ask him to move so he could leave," a source told RadarOnline, "It was absolutely instigated by the photographer and could have been avoided entirely if he hadn't been physically blocking Justin from leaving the parking lot."
“Justin wasn't looking for trouble, it's just not who he is," they added.
In a police statement released following the alleged incident Selena Gomez was named as a witness and also named as leaving with Justin before police arrived on the scene.
