Justin Bieber has stepped up to help a shelter where pregnant teens can go, stay open. The Bethesda Centre in London, Ont., is of special interest to Bieber because his mother, Pattie Mallette, was there while pregnant with him.
Threatened with closure, Bethesda has begun a major funding drive. In order to remain open they need to raise $1.5 million and this week Bieber said his contribution will be to donate a portion of the download sales of his new song 'Turn to You.' It's not known how much that might be for Bethesda but the song already sits at number 3 on the iTunes charts.
Bieber turned 18 on March 1st and his mother was staying at the 18-bed Bethesda during her pregnancy in 1993 and 1994. He was born in London but grew up in Stratford, in the same Canadian province. His mother is helping with the drive to keep Bethesda open and tweeted about it Thursday: "please help me save these young girls. They have no where else to go," Mallette wrote.
The Canadian pop singer has contributed to causes throughout his brief career, among others he's given time and raised funds for 'Pencils for Promise', a charity that builds schools and provides school equipment, the 'Children's Miracle Wish Foundation', anti-bullying campaigns and campaigns to get the word out to young people that texting and driving is dangerous.
As a Mother's Day offering to his Mom, Bieber dedicated 'Turn to You' to her.
