True to form, fighter Floyd Mayweather was hanging around on Twitter Saturday morning, talking up his upcoming fight last night in Las Vegas, giving shoutouts and answering fans. One of the fans who weighed in: Justin Bieber, who tweeted Mayweather this message Saturday afternoon:
“cinco de mayo.... #MayweatherCotto yeah @FloydMayweather today is a BIG day.” Bieber followed up with the simple hashtag tweet “#FIGHTNIGHT.”

Who knew Justin Bieber was a fan of the Sweet Science? That’s just how big this fight turned out to be.
Mayweather answered back, “@justinbieber keep up the great work and thanks for the support #TheMoneyTeam. Enjoy the fight.”
This brief bit of contact apparently sparked a spur of the moment decision by Mayweather to invite Bieber out from Los Angeles to the fight to join him in Las Vegas, and to be part of his entourage as he entered the ring at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Buzz spread among insider media that Bieber was joining Mayweather (including here at Communities, which may have published the first story about the Twitter exchange), but nothing was confirmed until Bieber was seen coming out of Mayweather’s dressing room and escorting him into the ring.
Bieber even carried two of the boxer’s championship belts into the ring for him, and stood with him as ring announcer Michael Bufffer made introductions. The crowd was stunned nearly into silence by Bieber’s arrival. Bieber bagged a seat just a few feet away from the ring behind the rest of the “Money Team.” He loudly cheered his new sports hero on from ringside, catching on fast.

Mayweather is known for his huge entourage including friends from the world of music including rappers 50 Cent and Lil Wayne. Bieber is represnted by Raymond Braun Media Group, a joint venture between Braun and R&B singer Usher. Bieber is mentored by Usher, and despite being a white kid from Canada has adopted urban street fashion and speech patterns.
Mayweather and Bieber are a marketing match made in heaven. Bieber exposes Mayweather to a whole new fan base; in return, Bieber gets serious street cred and maybe a little maturity from Mayweather. After all, Bieber recently turned 18 years old. If you tweeted a champion like Mayweather just for fun and got an offer like this, wouldn’t you take him up on it? Heck yeah!
Count me as a Belieber in this celebrity odd couple.
