One Direction's Harry Styles swaps phone numbers with Taylor Swift

HARRY Styles of boy band One Direction has confirmed he has exchanged phone numbers with Taylor Swift.

Pop heartthrob Styles, 18, met country sweetheart Swift, 22, at the Kids Choice Awards earlier this month.

"We met in America, she’s very nice, yes,” a tongue-tied Styles said.

"She is very talented,” he said, pausing to choose his words carefully. "She’s very nice… We’re friends."

Styles is the most popular member of One Direction on Twitter by nearly a million followers.

He dated 32-year-old British woman Caroline Flack last year.

Bandmate Zayn Malik, 19, was in a relationship with singer Rebecca Ferguson, 25.

Do they like older women?

"That’s more so Harry,” Malik said. "He likes an older lady.”

"Sometimes,” Styles said, squirming.

The pair denied reports Simon Cowell, who assembled the band on the UK X Factor, had imposed a “love ban” on the single members.

"Not true. It would have been a bit rough,” Malik said. "We work hard and we play hard, so that would have been a bit rough.

”We’re normal guys. If we find a girl attractive... if you meet a girl you meet a girl. If you exchange numbers then whatevs..”

Styles said the band had noticed local fans waving explicit signs.

"There were a few rudie ones,” Styles said. "Some of them were more direct than you’d expect. Shocking, some of them.”

Despite claims an American boy band called One Direction were taking legal action to reclaim the name, Malik said fans shouldn’t worry.

“We’re not changing our name. We don’t know what’s going to happen but we’re not changing our name.”

The band will tour Australia, playing larger venues, next year. They’ll record and release their second album in time for Christmas.

"We co-wrote three tracks on this album, we want to get more involved in the songwriting," Malik said.

"We want to make it authentic and make sure more stuff comes from us," Styles said. "We’re writing in our spare time, putting notes in our phone. It’ll be the same kind of vibe. As we grow up the music will grow up."

The band’s Australian visit has been captured by a film crew - footage which Styles says may be released in a One Direction documentary.

Styles watched the Beatles’ teen-hysteria film A Hard Days’ Night on the plane to Australia and said he could relate to their lives.

"There are a lot of similarities in terms of character which I didn’t realise. I’d never actually seen footage of the Beatles just chilling out.

"The vibe between them is very similar to the relationship we have. The Beatles are complete icons. It’s a massive compliment when people compare us to them but we have to brush it off, we have to do our own thing. We actually want to do an acoustic Beatles cover, we just have to choose the right song," he said.
