Justin Bieber notches his first top 10 on a U.S. Billboard airplay chart, as "Boyfriend" reaches the top tier on Pop Songs, where it rises 12-10. Bieber had previously risen as high as No. 14 on the tally with debut single "One Time" in 2009.
The ascent at Bieber's home radio format fills in one of the few gaps in the teen superstar's career resume. He's scored three No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 and 10 top 10s on the Digital Songs survey. "Boyfriend" has sold 1.1 million downloads since its release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The track's debut sales sum (521,000) three weeks ago stands as the fifth-highest frame since SoundScan began tallying download totals in 2003.
Bieber joins Carrie Underwood, LMFAO and the Wanted as the first performers announced for the 2012 Billboard Music Awards. The festivities air on May 20 on ABC from the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas.
Surely aiding his chart move this week, Bieber appeared on NBC's "The Voice" last Tuesday (April 17) to introduce a clip of the forthcoming "Boyfriend" video. The song previews Bieber's album "Believe," due June 19.
All charts, including Pop Songs, will be refreshed on Thursday (April 26) on Billboard.com.
