Demi Lovato 'Tried Cocaine Because Of Depression'

Demi Lovato has opened up about taking cocaine and explained why she succumbed to the lure of drugs in the past.

In an interview with Fabulous magazine, the Skyscraper singer revealed that loneliness and depression initially led her to try cocaine.

"It's something I don't really want to talk about," she told the publication.

"What I can say is that I was depressed. I would come off stage in front of 18,000 people and suddenly be alone in a hotel room. I'd come crashing down and would try to find a way to recreate that feeling, to stay 'up'."

Demi also claimed that promoters would give her drugs so that she "would be seen" at their clubs or restaurants.

She added: "Being a celebrity can be dangerous. Nobody says 'no'. That's why so many end up overdosing and dying. It could definitely have happened to me."

The former Disney star revealed that though entering rehab to battle an eating disorder wasn't her idea, she "didn't fight it."

Last month Cheryl Cole described Demi, who is now a healthy size 10-12, as 'inspirational' after watching her emotional MTV documentary, Stay Strong.
