You don’t see Demi Lovato in her latest video, but you do feel her presence — the singer, actress and activist narrates a touching thank you for her fans and a warm dedication of her latest single, ‘Give Your Heart a Break,’ to her beloved Lovatics.
“19 years old. It’s not old,” Lovato begins. “It’s not even close. But sometimes it feels like during that brief time that I’ve been alive, that I’ve lived through more emotions than someone twice my age.” The visual begins with Lovato’s hands on a steering wheel, driving down a winding road. Anyone who’s seen Lovato’s recent MTV documentary, ‘Stay Strong,’ will know this girl is not kidding.
Soon, a beautiful sunset upon a tire swing, flowers and a series of other gorgeous natural settings tease our eyes as Lovato reflects on love. “I think that’s the reason I sing about love so often in the music I make,” Lovato mused. “Love goes right, love goes wrong. I’ve sung about loving someone so much that it takes your breath away. I’ve sung about the love you can find chasing your dreams and what it’s like to finally achieve that.”
“Last year I began working on a song about a different kind of love,” Lovato said. “It’s about showing someone that you love that you’re right in front of them,” she explained. ”‘Give Your Heart a Break’ isn’t a song about having a broken heart. It’s actually funny sometimes when people think that, because it has nothing to do with that,” Lovato giggled, her voice set to more lovely landscapes. “This is a song about faith, it’s a song about fighting for the one you love. It’s about living in the moment, and mostly it’s about believing you’re worth falling for.” Think she had rumored boyfriend Big Time Rush singer Logan Henderson on her mind when she wrote this? If so, it worked!
“That’s what I was trying to achieve with that song, but now it’s starting to feel like it’s something else,” she noted, set to images of her feet stepping through sand. “Every night when I sing it, I think about something different,” she said earnestly. So what does she think about?
“I think about all of you. In the past year, so many of my fans have told me songs like this have gotten them through tough spots in their lives, and to me, that’s the greatest gift music can bring. I’m grateful for all the love I’ve had in my life,” Lovato says warmly, “but most of all I’m thankful to be able to share that love with all of you.” Say it with us, Lovatics: Awwwww!
