He has done somewhat better in past years at his country's music awards but this time Justin Bieber is nominated for just 2 Juno Awards. The awards were announced Tuesday and the Biebs is up for the 'Fan Choice Award' and 'Album of the Year'.
The Junos are awarded each year to celebrate excellence in Canadian music and this year they go April 1 in Ottawa. When they announced the nominations in the total of 41 categories, Juno officials also announced that Canadian TV icon, William Shatner, of 'Star Trek' fame, will host the show. Kirk is not a musician but is a proud Canadian.
Bieber has arguably had less success with the Junos than with other awards shows. In 2010 he was nominated for 5 Junos but won only one, The 'Fan Choice Award'. Last year he was nominated but twice and won for 'Pop Album of the Year' for My World.2.0.
He missed out in the 'Artist of the Year' category, as Deadmau5, Drake, Feist, City and Colour and Michael Buble got the nominations. For 'Album of the Year' his Under the Mistletoe is up against Michael Buble's album Christmas. Also in that category are Avril Lavigne's Goodbye Lullaby, the Drake album Take Care, and Here and Now from Nickleback.
No word on whether Bieber will be at the 2012 Juno Awards but there is word the pop singer knows about the nominations. He tweeted the following on Wednesday: "WE ARE nominated for ALBUM OF THE YEAR for #UnderTheMistletoe & the JUNO FAN CHOICE AWARD #JUNOAwards - THANK YOU! #CANADA."
