NOT many 14-year-olds can boast of the kind of popularity that Greyson Chance is currently enjoying. This young lad became an instant sensation when his rendition of Lady Gaga’s Paparazzi on YouTube was caught by TV talkshow host Ellen DeGeneres who then featured it on her show.
Suffice to say, that video went viral and with over 44 million views Chance became an instant internet star.
DeGeneres then signed him on as the very first artiste on her music label eleveneleven, which led to regular appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and other TV shows.
Last year Chance performed in Kuala Lumpur as part of his first promo tour stint and on April 17, he will perform in Kuala Lumpur as part of his first major concert tour in Asia, which includes Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines.
The Greyson Chance Live in Malaysia is organised by JS Concert Productions (www.jsconcert.com) with MIDAS Promotions.
Chance had taken three years of piano lessons from the age of eight but never had formal vocal training. After watching Lady Gaga’s performance of Paparazzi at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards he was inspired by her, which emboldened him to do a cover of the song.
Chance’s Paparazzi performance was posted on YouTube on April 28, 2010, and a star was born. On May 12, 2010, Chance taped an interview and performance of Paparazzi for DeGeneres in Los Angeles.
Chance’s other original compositions Stars and Broken Hearts also received a lot of attention on YouTube. His debut single titled Waiting Outside the Lines was released on iTunes on Oct 26, 2010, followed by Unfriend You last May. And in Aug, his debut album Hold On ‘Til the Night, was released.
Chance also tried his hand at acting by taking on a role on the TV series Raising Hope.
When Chance was in Kuala Lumpur last year, he held a showcase performance and also performed at the Anugerah Industri Muzik (Malaysian Music Industry Awards) show (the first foreign artiste to be invited since 1999) and later gave a performance in Kota Kinabalu.
He recently released his remix of Waiting Outside the Lines as a duet with Charice.
Greyson Chance will perform in Malaysia on April 17 at 8.30 pm at KL Live, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur.
