Friends, classmates and even people who have never met 17-year-old Daniel McCauley are trying to do something special in his memory.
They started by creating a Facebook memorial page, wore his favorite colors to school, and created a makeshift memorial where the teen crashed his beige 2000 Jeep Wrangler Wednesday.
Their most recent effort is trying to convince Taylor Swift, McCauley's favorite singer, to come to Palm Beach County and perform a tribute concert to honor the popular teen.
McCauley, a Palm Beach Central High School junior, was driving eastbound on Forest Hill Boulevard Wednesday morning near the entrance to Okeeheelee Park. For unknown reasons, McCauley - who was wearing a seat belt - left the roadway, struck a utility pole and tree, according to a traffic homicide report.
Ever since McCauley's friends and classmates were told that the suburban West Palm Beach teen had died, they have come together to pay respects to him and his family the best they could.
A Facebook memorial page, "R.I.P. Danny McCauley", was created sometime late Wednesday evening. By Friday morning 4,443 people "liked" the page.
Another Facebook page, "Get Taylor Swift to Notice Danny McCauley", was also created.
Friends of the former varsity linebacker and wrestler started a Twitter movement, "Do it for Danny."
And speaking of Twitter, they've been tweeting Swift and talk show hostess Ellen DeGeneres in an effort to enlist the latter in their campaign to bring Swift to town.
