Bruno Mars booms in the recession

BRUNO Mars and Fred the Shred – the only men to make money out of the recession.

Bruno has credited the current economic crisis in the UK as the inspiration behind one of his most successful songs.

The singer came up with the idea for Billionaire, eventually sung by Travie McCoy, after getting short-changed when he tried to convert US dollars into sterling on a trip to London.

He said: "I was in London and I wanted to exchange pounds. So I gave him $500 and he basically gave me back £200. I was like 'What?! How does this work?'

"This is how the Billionaire thing started out. I started humming it on the streets. Travie came along later and put his verses on it and then it hit the charts."

Bruno won't be too concerned about the exchange rate when he's back in the country for the Brits.

The chance of taking home the Best International Male gong might just make up for losing out at the currency exchange bureau.
