5 odd facts of ‘The Wizards of Waverly Place’: Joe Jonas auditioned for the show

Wizards of Waverly Place series finale airs on Friday night. With a look back at the cast, the magic and the fun fans know the decision of who will be the last time the family will be together. However, the fans are taking a moment to reflect on just how far Alex Russo (played by Selena Gomez) has come.

While the tissue box will be out tonight as the fans watch the series finale, there are plenty of odd facts about the series that are worth a look. While most find this hard to believe, the series was originally called the The Amazing Hannigan’s with Alex Russo’s character actually named Julia Hannigan.

As huge fans of the show the idea of finding out the five most interesting facts had us rushing to do our homework (Alex would be so disappointed) and here’s what every Wizards of Waverly Place fan has got to know about the show:

1. The Wizards of Waverly Place show was originally called The Amazing Hannigan’s. Then it was called The Amazing O'Malleys.

2. Demi Lovato’s sister, Dallas Lovato, was originally set to be on the pilot of the show. She did actually go on the show, but was cut from the original series as a regular cast member.

3. Joe Jonas auditioned for the role of Justin Russo. As we all know David Henrie got the role of the big brother on the show, but Joe was actually seriously considered.

4. There are many references to the people working behind the scenes. The hardware store is called Greenwald's Hardware, which is a reference to creator Todd J. Greenwald. The McCreerytimereary spells is a play on the name of producer Gigi McCreery.

5. Edgebonoutoosis is a reference to the band U2 along with The Edge and Bono.

Well, here's one more (we’re fans after all.)

6. The original name for Selena Gomez’s character, before she became Alex Russo was Brooke O'Malley. Selena doesn't look like a Brooke or does she?

The series finale of Wizards of Waverly Place is Friday on Disney Channel. We share a fond farewell to a Greenwich family who kept their magic a secret from the City of New York.
