An anti-piracy bill pending in the Senate could send pop star Justin Bieber to prison for up to five years for posting videos of himself singing famous pop songs.
According to 4TNZ when Justin Bieber kicked off his brand new, first ever solo headlining tour last night in Connecticut, the audience got a treat when he came down into a giant, heart-shaped metal cage, thrilling the screaming girls!
Headline News reports that a free-speech and fair-use advocacy group called Fight for the Future has launched the Free Bieber campaign to fight congressional law S.978, which makes streaming or otherwise using copyrighted music in an online video punishable by up to five years.
According to Freebieber.org, a new bill in Congress makes posting a video containing any copyrighted work a felony---with up to 5 years in prison. Bieber blew up after impressing Usher (among others) with his homemade YouTube videos of himself singing hit R&B tunes, aka copyrighted material.
Fight for the Future is asking everyone to imagine young Bieber going to jail instead of his claim to fame for his talent using someone else's song to do it on the internet.
"Tell Congress to get a clue and stop trying to jail people for singing," the group states in encouraging folks to sign its online petition. "Congress has no business making ordinary Internet users criminals for expressing themselves online."
If this bill passes, Bieber could get 5 years in prison.
