YouTube Hit Greyson Has His Chance On Charts

American schoolboy Greyson Chance became a YouTube hit last year with his rendition of a Lady Gaga song - and now he is releasing his debut album.

The 13-year-old's performance of Paparazzi in his school hall, which has received 41 million YouTube views, led to talk show host Ellen DeGeneres creating a record label especially so she could sign the young talent.

"She is very, very involved. She is always critiquing songs, artwork, everything," says Chance about DeGeneres.

Instead of rushing into recording his first album - called Hold On 'til The Night - Greyson's management opted to take their time, the young star said.

"You need to take time to build the process, gain the fans, put out the record and also build time to realise what the heck you're doing.

"You don't want to rush into something. You need to take your time, realise what you're doing, what you want to do, how to market yourself and the music industry is a lot of business and it's a lot of politics."

The singer says he wrote more than half of the songs on the record, which is out now.
