Far from her role as wizard Alex in Disney's Wizards of Waverly Place, Selena Gomez will soon be playing a troubled high-school teenager who commits suicide.
According to Deadline, Disney starlet Selena, who attended rumoured boyfriend Justin Bieber's Never Say Never premiere last night, will star in Universal's adaptation of Jay Asher's novel, 13 Reasons Why.
Selena will play the part of Hanna Baker, a high-school student who makes seven cassette tapes before she commits suicide. Instructions are given to a classmate who she had a crush on, to give the cassettes to the 13 people who played a part in her death.
The role will definitely see Selena step out of her acting comfort zone.
It is thought that Jennifer O'Kieffe will pen the script for producers, Eric Newman, Marc Abraham and Mandy Teefey.
