A Miley Cyrus sex tape is being used as bait by Facebook phishers.
Security analysts are warning Facebook users to be wary of messages titled “Omg Miley Cyrus sex tape,” which include a link to a supposed scandalous video of the teen sensation.
Instead of linking to a video, the link takes users to a fraudulent website that looks just like the Facebook login page, reported the security firm Sophos. When users input their e-mails and passwords, they are sent directly to those behind the scam.
This is not the first time Facebook scammers have used Miley Cyrus or other teen celebrities in malicious campaigns. In early November, messages circulated around Facebook claiming to have a “scandalous” photo of Cyrus and a video of Justin Bieber hitting a girl.
Security experts advise people to exercise caution when coming across suspicious-looking e-mails and Facebook messages, and to never enter personal information on a site if you aren’t sure of its legitimacy.
