James Van Der Beek Explains Who Diplo is on 'Late Show': 'The Frank Sinatra of Electronic Dance Music'

James Van Der Beek is dapper in a suit while making an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday (August 2) in New York City.

The 40-year-old actor talked about his early beginnings as an actor, his big break in an Edward Albee play, and talked about playing EDM producer Diplo in his new Viceland series called What Would Diplo Do?, which he wrote.

“The world’s divided into two people. There’s people who have no idea who Diplo is and then there’s people who cannot fandom that anybody doesn’t know who Diplo is,” James told host Stephen. “So to the people in the former group, I say Diplo is the Frank Sinatra of electronic dance music. He’s a world famous DJ-producer, and he’s worked with everybody from Madonna to Beyonce to Justin Bieber. If you listen to popular music at all you know his songs, but you don’t really know his face.”
