What's it like to get the phone call from Ryan Murphy asking you to be a guest star on Glee? Jackpot. Ding, ding, ding, ding. Few folks actually get that kind of call, but Jessica Sanchez, American Idol season 11 runner-up, did.
Jessica stopped by Cambio to give us the inside scoop on that experience and much more.
First, she had to peel herself off the ceiling! "I was a little confused cause I've never acted," Jessica admits. She told Ryan her concern, but he saw something in Jessica that she didn't see in herself, and so her first acting gig is now on the Glee season finale, airing this Thursday night! "I was like, what the heck, everything is happening so fast," she says, though she quickly caught the acting bug. "It's really fun to act like a different person." Maybe she'll draw on her inner Jennifer Hudson for the show.
What was it like meeting the cast? "I met Naya Rivera and I was totally fangirling. She is gorgeous," says Jessica. She's playing Frida Romero, a 17-year-old member of New Directions' rival Hoosierdaddies at the show choir's regional competition. She tells us her character is "a diva powerhouse singer" and that "[the Hoosierdaddies] are big competition." Who better to know about a singing competition than an Idol runner-up.
In her down time Jessica says, " I am just a normal girl...sleeping, eating, I play video games." Also, when she's not singing, she says she's definitely practicing and it has been her lifelong dream to make it in this business. Her advice for anyone who wants to follow in her footsteps? "Never give up...It's a lot of hard work, and if it is your dream you cannot give up because it all pays off if you really put your mind to it."
