A teenager has been arrested after Olympic hopeful Tom Daley was targeted on Twitter for being placed 4th in the synchronised diving event with partner Pete Waterfield yesterday.
The malicious user accused Tom, 18, of letting down his father Rob - who died of cancer aged 40 last year - by missing out on a medal.
'A
17-year-old man was arrested by Dorset Police officers in the early
hours this morning at a guesthouse in the Weymouth area on suspicion of
malicious communications,' says a police spokeswoman.
'He is currently helping police with their inquiries.'
Tom had re-Tweeted the message: '@TomDaley1994 you let your dad down i hope you know that' yesterday evening and added: 'After giving it my all...you get idiot's sending me this.'
The Twitter troll continued to post a barrage of abusive messages, but Tom was offered support from both the British public and a number of celebrity faces.
One Direction star Liam Payne Tweeted: '@TomDaley1994 ignore them dikheads mate we all sat and watched you today and we thought u did incredible.'
